First Aid Officer Training - Group A

Ministerial Decree 388/2003 contains provisions regarding First Aid and introduces a classification of companies to define First Aid organization methods; it also identifies the content of First Aid Training courses for personnel.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The course is aimed at First Aid Personnel in Group A Companies:

• Industrial companies or production units (e.g., Seveso II - Thermal Power Plants - Nuclear - Extraction and Mining - Underground - Explosives, powders, and ammunition);
• Industrial companies or production units belonging to or attributable to INAIL tariff groups with a permanent disability accident index greater than 4;
• Companies or production units in the agricultural sector with more than 5 workers.

PROGRAM

MODULE A

Alerting the emergency system:

• Causes and circumstances of the injury;
• Communicating information clearly and precisely to Emergency Medical Services;

Recognizing a medical emergency:

• Accident scene (information gathering; anticipating obvious and probable dangers);
• Assessing the psychophysical condition of the injured worker: vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, respiration); state of consciousness; hypothermia and hyperthermia;
• Basic notions of anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems;
• Self-protection techniques for rescue personnel;

Perform first aid procedures:

• Maintenance of vital functions: positioning of the injured person and maneuvers for airway patency; artificial respiration; external cardiac massage;
• Recognition and limits of first aid intervention (lipothymia, syncope, shock; acute pulmonary edema; asthmatic crisis; acute stenocardic pain; allergic reactions; convulsive crises; post-traumatic external hemorrhages and hemorrhagic tamponade);

Understand the specific risks of the activity performed;

MODULE B

Gain general knowledge about workplace injuries:

• Overview of skeletal anatomy;
• Dislocations, fractures, and complications;
• Craniocerebral and spinal injuries;
• Thoraco-abdominal injuries;

Gain general knowledge about specific workplace pathologies:

• Cold and heat injuries;
• Electrical injuries;
• Chemical injuries;
• Poisoning;
• Lacerated and contused wounds;
• External hemorrhages;

MODULE C

Acquire practical intervention skills:

• Communication techniques with the National Health Service (NHS) emergency system;
• First aid techniques for acute cerebral syndromes;
• First aid techniques for acute respiratory failure syndrome;
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques;
• Hemorrhage control techniques;
• Techniques for lifting, moving, and transporting injured individuals;
• First aid techniques in cases of accidental exposure to chemical and biological agents.

At the end of the course, a test will be administered to verify the understanding of the concepts taught, along with a practical resuscitation exercise on a specialized mannequin. Successfully completing these two assessments will lead to the issuance of a certificate valid for three years, after which a refresher course will be required.
