First Aid Responder Training - Group B/C
DM 388/2003 contains provisions regarding First Aid and introduces a classification of companies to define how First Aid should be organized; similarly, it also identifies the content of First Aid Personnel Training courses.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is for First Aid Personnel in Group B/C Companies:
- All companies not included in Group A.
PROGRAM
MODULE A
Alerting the emergency system:
- Causes and circumstances of the injury (location of the injury, number of people involved, condition of the injured, etc.);
- Communicating the aforementioned information clearly and precisely to Emergency Medical Services;
Recognizing a medical emergency:
- Injury scene: information gathering; anticipation of obvious and probable dangers;
- Assessment of the injured worker's psychophysical condition: vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, respiration); state of consciousness; hypothermia and hyperthermia;
- Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems;
- Self-protection techniques for rescue personnel;
Performing first aid procedures:
- Life support: positioning the injured person and maneuvers to clear the upper airways; artificial respiration; external cardiac massage;
- Recognition and limits of first aid intervention: syncope, fainting, shock; acute pulmonary edema; asthmatic crisis; acute stenocardic pain; allergic reactions; convulsive crises;
- post-traumatic external hemorrhages and hemorrhagic tamponade.
Understand the specific risks of the activity performed;
MODULE B
Acquire general knowledge on workplace traumas:
- Basics of skeletal anatomy;
- Dislocations, fractures, and complications;
- Craniocerebral and spinal traumas and injuries;
- Thoracoabdominal traumas and injuries;
Acquire general knowledge on specific workplace pathologies:
- Cold and heat injuries;
- Electrical current injuries;
- Chemical agent injuries;
- Intoxications;
- Lacerated and contused wounds;
- External hemorrhages;
MODULE C
Acquire practical intervention skills:
- Key communication techniques with the National Health Service emergency system;
- Key first aid techniques for acute cerebral syndromes;
- Key first aid techniques for acute respiratory syndrome;
- Key cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques;
- Key techniques for hemorrhage control;
- Key techniques for lifting, moving, and transporting injured individuals;
- Key first aid techniques in case of accidental exposure to chemical and biological agents.
At the end of the course, a test will be conducted to verify the understanding of the concepts taught, along with a practical resuscitation exercise on a specialized mannequin. Successfully completing both tests will result in a certificate of achievement valid for three years, after which a refresher course will be required.
