Health Surveillance

Cos'è il servizio di Health Surveillance

Health surveillance is a continuous process that involves the observation, assessment, and management of workers' health. Through the worker's medical examination, their health status is monitored over time, allowing for timely intervention to prevent potential occupational diseases or work-related injuries.

According to current regulations, every company is required to appoint an occupational health physician who will establish the procedures for managing occupational medical examinations, ensuring the protection of workers' health and safety.

THE MEDICAL EXAMINATION

The occupational medical examination is a medical assessment aimed at evaluating the health status of workers in relation to the activities performed in the workplace. During the examination, the occupational health physician gathers detailed information on working conditions and the workers' medical history, and subjects them to clinical and instrumental tests, if necessary.

The main objective of the occupational medical examination is the health surveillance of workers. Through this practice, the aim is to promptly identify any risks, pathologies, or exposure to harmful substances arising from work activities. This allows for the adoption of appropriate preventive and protective measures to ensure workers' health and safety.

MANDATORY MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS

Regulations stipulate that workers must undergo periodic medical examinations or specific examinations based on their duties or exposure to certain risks. The frequency of examinations depends on regulatory provisions and the occupational health physician's recommendations.

The medical examination, in addition to being an obligation for the employer, is also a form of protection for the worker themselves: undergoing regular check-ups with periodic examinations and having the opportunity to undergo specific tests is a significant advantage for both.

Indeed, for a company to be healthy, it must have healthy workers on its staff who are able to adequately perform their duties to ensure a high level of productivity.

The occupational medical examination enables precisely this, allowing the Employer to ascertain, with the help of a professional called a competent doctor, that the worker is fit to perform a certain task, even before hiring.

APPOINTMENT OF THE COMPETENT DOCTOR

The Competent Doctor is the professional who assists the employer in organizing health surveillance: they are responsible for medical examinations and keeping their reports. Together with the Employer and the Head of the Prevention and Protection Service, they collaborate in the risk assessment process by evaluating workers' health conditions and conducting a workplace inspection at least once a year.
